KickStart Your Health With “Food For Life” Nutrition Classes

Asheville Gynecology & Wellness is starting a new 5-part series of their special nutrition classes, Food For Life: Kickstart Your Health.

In a public health climate where 68% of adults in the U.S. are overweight or obese and millions have diabetes, the need for a lifestyle change is greater than it has ever been. Food for Life: Kickstart Your Health classes help people make lasting change.

How Does It Work?

Depending on your perspective, you could say Food For Life: Kickstart Your Health is about losing weight, maintaining a healthy weight, or simply embracing an overall healthful diet. For some people, it’s the first time the idea of choosing the right food instead of restricting food has been the guiding principle for getting and staying healthy. Some of the many benefits of this new way of eating include lower cholesterol, better disease control, lower blood pressure, as well as improvements in energy and mood.

Food For Life: Kickstart Your Health offers participants a chance to:

  • Discover which foods are optimal for weight management
  • Learn about various health topics, including blood pressure and digestion
  • Get empowered with the practical cooking skills needed to help you on your journey to better health
  • Enjoy a cooking demonstration & taste delicious, healthful dishes in a supportive setting

What’s Covered?

The five-class series gets in-depth on several important topics, including:

  • The Power of Your Plate
  • Let’s Go!
  • Getting in Gear
  • Breaking the Food Seduction
  • Keys for Natural Appetite Control
  • Digestive Health
  • Healthy Blood Pressure

Each class is two hours and includes a 15-20 minute DVD lecture by Dr. Neal Barnard, as well as nutrition discussion and tips, a live cooking demo of three new recipes each class, and lots of sampling of delicious plant-based foods.

Men are welcome and encouraged to participate too!

This five-class series is presented in weekly evening meetings, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., held at Asheville Gynecology & Wellness Center’s spacious teaching kitchen in Gerber Village. Each class is followed by an optional 30-minute cooking demonstration with free samples and recipes.
