Great Harvest Bread Co. Under New Local Ownership

great harvest

Great Harvest Bread Co. is under new LOCAL ownership.  Pegi and Andy Singleton, 15 year residents of Asheville, have taken over the ownership effective February 2018.  They have brought back many popular and favorite sandwich  items, as well as expanding the weekly bread offerings.  In March, they are offering on a daily basis, the four flagship breads- Farmhouse White, Honey Whole Wheat, Cinnamon Chip and Dakota (a whole wheat bread enriched with pumpkin, sunflower and sesame seeds), as well as millet.

Additionally, they have sourced a sourdough starter from San Francisco which is 25 years old!  They have paired this with their own Asheville starter and the bread is amazing.  The bread is made with 100% wild yeast, no commercial yeast, so it is truly unique to their bakery.  Since rolling out, the sourdough has sold out consistently and they are increasing the amount of loaves they are making to accommodate the need.Sourdough is available Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday-Saturday if it doesn’t sell-out.

The March bread calendar features Woodstock, Irish Soda Bread, Hi-5 Fiber, Cherry Cranberry Walnut, Anadama, 9-Grain, Gouda Stout (made with Hi-Wire Brewing’s 10W – 40 Stout beer), and finally Rosemary Garlic.  Beginning in April, they will be moving to a seasonal bread schedule, which will run with the seasons.

In addition to breads, Great Harvest prepare delicious goodies, including brownies, Savannah bars, scones, blondies, salted caramel brownies, chocolate chip, walnut and oat cookies, lemon iced cookies and more.

For Easter, they are taking orders for Hot Cross Buns, Virginia Dinner Rolls and their famous Honey Bunnies, which are bunny rabbits created from Honey Whole Wheat Dough and are adorable, as well as tasty!

Great Harvest Bread Co will be holding an open  house for their Grand Re-Opening on April 27 and 28.  They will bee offering a tasting of all of their sandwiches, including rolling out two brand new sandwiches, as well as salads and grain bowls.  They will be giving everyone who comes, a mini-loaf of Honey Whole Wheat bread, as well as the chance to win prizes, such as free bread for a year, gift cards and much more.  There will be fun games and a clown and face painter for the kids.
